Key tip for this matchup

Yasuo has the upper hand during early game as his (W) blocks Zed’s [Q]. Use [Q] from multiple angles with [W] to make it difficult to completely block with (W), while using [R] and [W] to confuse him in combat.

A level-by-level game plan for Zed vs Yasuo.

Hand-written

Levels 1-2

Both champions are relatively passive before their combos come online.

  • Zed's Q has more base damage early — use it to poke Yasuo's shield down without committing to melee range.
  • Yasuo's passive shield blocks the next incoming auto or spell — bait it out with a cheap poke before your real trade.

Levels 3-5

This is where the lane starts being decided by who lands first.

  • Zed wants to shove the wave and threaten a Shadow (W) all-in the moment Yasuo's shield is down.
  • Yasuo wants to knock Zed up with Q3 (tornado through minions) to set up an easy trade — respect the wave state.

Level 6

Zed's ultimate is one of the scariest level 6 spikes in the game.

  • Zed can flash-ult or ult from range for a huge burst — Yasuo needs to hold Wind Wall ready the instant Zed's ult is up.
  • Yasuo's Last Breath isn't live yet without a knock-up source, so Zed generally wins isolated all-ins at exactly level 6.

Levels 7-11

Priority swings toward whoever can roam or hold wave control.

  • Zed should use Shadow mobility to roam side lanes when Yasuo can't threaten a knock-up punish on the wave.
  • Yasuo wants a jungler with hard CC to combo Last Breath into a kill — ask for ganks rather than forcing 1v1s.

Levels 12-15

Lethality vs crit item spikes both come online here.

  • Zed's lethality spike lets him burst through Yasuo's shield and armor more reliably — look for isolated kills in skirmishes.
  • Yasuo's crit spike (with a knock-up) can burst Zed down just as fast — Wind Wall timing decides most of these fights.

Level 16+

Both are pick-oriented champions who want a clean initiation, not a straight fight.

  • Zed should wait for Yasuo to use Wind Wall defensively (on a teammate) before committing his ultimate.
  • Yasuo wants a knock-up into Last Breath onto Zed specifically — that combo alone often wins the fight.
